When your CDs or DVDs are ready for the next step, whether because they were duplicated or replicated – or because you already have your discs and just need a printing service – it’s time to consider which on body printing process you require. You usually have two options to choose from and, while the end result will depend on that decision, you can always count on them to offer only the highest quality.
Printing directly on a CD/DVD, instead of opting for attaching a label to the disc, has several benefits. For example, not only does it look more professional, especially if you need to distribute the discs to your employees or clients, but it’s also more convenient: you don’t have to deal with arranging labels, printing them and gluing them onto the face of the discs, which also reduces damage, since adhesive labels can peel off from wear and tear.
Screen Printing
This is one of the early methods of printing on a disc, and it’s also hugely popular for situations like retail. The screen is porous, originally made from silk but now made from materials like polyester or nylon, and is stretched over an aluminium frame. After the image is printed, the screen is placed on the face of the disc and the following processes allow it to be imprinted there. This method is ideal for solid, bold colours, as well as graphics and text.
Litho Printing
As for litho printing, you can get high quality resolutions that make it ideal for photographic images, as this process has full access to the entire range of colours. This is a process suited for large orders as well, as it’s characterised by the transference of the image to a rubber blanket and, from there, to the face of the disc. This makes it a great choice for complicated designs with a lot of details, as they appear well defined.
Which is Best for You?
It’s easier to reach a decision after studying the differences between the two processes, since they both are the better choice for a different set of circumstances. Since everything depends on the type of project you require this printing service for, you must first make sure if the image is complex and requires a high level of detail. If that’s the case, then litho printing might be better.
The great advantage of both these processes is that they offer you tailored solutions, so you always end up with the one that’s best for you and your project.
